| The sapwood is sometimes white, gray, or pinkish in color, and can be described as somewhat similar to Maple in appearance and is very distinct from heartwood. Freshly-cut heartwood runs from salmon-red to orange-brown which darkens into a russet to reddish-brown color with aging, and it is frequently marked with dark streaks. The texture is medium to coarse with interlocked graining and a luster that runs from dull to fairly lustrous. |
